Taking care of your PPF

Investing in PPF is only the first step. Looking after it properly ensures it continues to protect your vehicle and maintain that flawless finish for years to come.

The First 48 Hours

Right after installation, your PPF is still settling.

  • Avoid washing the car for at least 48 hours, ideally a week, explicitly do not use jet washes in this time as the film is still settling.
  • Keep the vehicle dry where possible
  • Don’t touch or press down on edges or bubbles

Some small bubbles or haze may appear—this is completely normal and will disappear as the film cures.

Washing Your Vehicle

Once cured, regular washing is essential.

Best practice:

  • Use the two-bucket method
  • Wash with a pH-neutral shampoo
  • Use a soft microfibre mitt
  • Dry with a clean microfibre towel or air blower

Avoid:

  • Harsh chemicals or solvents
  • Automatic car washes with brushes
  • Abrasive sponges or cloths

Jet washing is fine, but keep the nozzle at least 1 metre away and avoid direct pressure on edges as this can lift edges of the film and you may need to come back to us and have that film repaired or replaced. This is a very common occurance.

Maintaining the Finish

PPF is designed to be low maintenance, but a little care goes a long way.

  • Use PPF-safe sealants or ceramic coatings to enhance gloss and hydrophobic properties, which we offer here at Assetti
  • Remove bird droppings and bug splatter as soon as possible
  • Light swirl marks will often self-heal with heat (sunlight or warm water)

What to Expect Over Time

High-quality PPF is built to last, but it’s important to understand natural wear:

  • The film may develop minor marks over time—this is it doing its job
  • Self-healing properties will reduce the appearance of light scratches
  • Edges should remain secure if properly maintained

If you notice any lifting or damage within the 10 year warranty period, it’s best to call us and we can have a look at it for you.

Professional Care

For long-term performance, consider:

  • Periodic maintenance checks
  • Professional deep cleans or top-up coatings
  • Safe removal and replacement when needed

Final Thoughts

PPF is there to take the abuse so your paint doesn’t—but it still needs the right care. Follow these simple steps and your vehicle will stay protected, cleaner for longer, and looking its absolute best.
