Legal Requirements: In the UK, there are strict legal regulations concerning the tinting of vehicle windows. These regulations vary depending on the type of vehicle and the windows being tinted. It is the responsibility of the vehicle owner to ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.

Visible Light Transmission (VLT): The UK law mandates specific limits on the Visible Light Transmission (VLT) of vehicle windows. This refers to the amount of visible light that can pass through the tinted windows. Non-compliance with VLT limits may result in penalties, including fines and vehicle inspection failures. Please be aware that factory fitted windows are already tinted and by adding additional tinting, this may result in vehicles no longer being compliant for road use.

Front Windscreen Tinting: According to UK law, it is illegal to tint the front windscreen of a vehicle, except for a narrow strip along the top. This strip must adhere to the prescribed VLT limits.

Front Side Windows: For vehicles registered after April 1, 1985, the front side windows must allow at least 70% of light to pass through (VLT). This means that only a limited level of tinting is permissible on these windows.

Rear Side Windows and Rear Windscreen: There are generally no specific VLT limits for rear side windows and the rear windscreen. However, the tinting must not impede the driver’s visibility or compromise road safety.
